Virlon

Virlon 5 tablet: Each film coated tablet contains Amlodipine 5 mg as Amlodipine Besilate BP. 

Virlon is indicated for the first line treatment of hypertension. Virlon is also indicated for the treatment of stable angina and vasospastic angina. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents or antianginal drugs. 

For the treatment of both hypertension and angina the usual initial dose is 5 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily. Dosage should be adjusted according to each patient’s need. Elderly individuals or patients with hepatic insufficiency may be started on 2.5 mg once daily dose  and  this  dose  may be  used  when  added with other antihypertensive therapy. 

Amlodipine   is   contraindicated   in   patients   with   known hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine. 

Safety of amlodipine in pregnancy and lactation has not been established at the present time. So, it is best for pregnant women and breast feeding mothers to avoid the drug. 

Amlodipine is generally well tolerated.  Headache,  oedema, fatigue,  nausea,  flushing,  dizziness,  gum  hyperplasi a  and erythema are most commonly reported side effects. 

Amlodipine should be used with caution in patients with heart failure and hepatic failure. Amlodipine is not a beta-blocker and therefore gives no protection against the danger of abrupt beta blocker withdrawal ; any such withdrawal should be gradual reduction of the dose of beta blocker.
Special warning for patients with heart failure & impaired hepatic function. There are no data to support the use of amlodipine alone, during or within one month of a myocardial infarction.

Amlodipine may enhance the effect of other antihypertensive (e.g.  Beta-blocke r,  ACE   inhibitors ,  Alpha-1-blocker s   and Diuretics).  In  clinical  study  amlodipine  did  not  affect  the pharmacokinetics of atorvastatin, digoxin, warfarin, cimetidine. Food does not alter the rate or extent of absorption of amlodipine. 

Virlon should be stored at room temperature between 15-30° C, away from light and moisture, at cool and dry place. Keep all medicines away from children.
