Presentation
Tenovir 50 tablet: Each film coated tablet contains Atenolol BP 50 mg.
Indications
Tenovir tablet is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, angina, arrhythmias, early intervention in acute myocardial infarction.
Dosage & Administration
Usual recommended dose in hypertension is 50-100 mg daily, in angina is 100 mg daily in 1 or 2 doses and arrhythmias is 50-100 mg daily or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Atenolol is contraindicated in heart failure, second or third degree heart block and in intermittent claudication.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Atenolol crosses the placenta. The safety of atenolol if given in early pregnancy has not been established and its use should therefore be avoided.
Atenolol is excreted in breast milk. Breast feeding can be undertaken but infants should be monitored for bradycardia, respiratory depression, hypotension and hypoglycaemia.

Side Effects
Bradycardia, heart failure, peripheral vasoconstriction and gastrointestinal disturbances may occur.
Precautions & Warnings
Reduce oral dose of atenolol in liver disease, reduce initial dose of atenolol in renal impairment, patients who have a tendency towards obstructive airways disease should be treated with caution.
Abrupt withdrawal of atenolol should be avoided in angina.

Drug Interactions
Reserpine may have an additive effect when given with beta-blocking agents. So be closely observed for evidence of hypotension. Calcium channel blockers may also have an additive effect when given with atenolol.
Pharmaceutical Precautions
Do not store above 25° C.
